The Hithergreen Strummers began in 1995 as a dulcimer woodworking class taught by Artie Brown at the Hithergreen Senior Center in Washington Township. When the class was completed, the members decided that they wanted to learn how to play the instrument as well. They asked two members of the Dayton Mountain Dulcimer Society to help them learn. Don Sears and Marty Lane came to their rescue; Don has remained a member of the Strummers.
This group has evolved into a cohesive group of Senior Citizens who enjoy getting together to play their favorite folk, gospel and other genres of music. They gather to practice and “jam” once a week now at the Franciscan Center at St. Leonard. They now include other folk instruments, and still enjoy playing music together.
They have played at schools, churches and senior retirement centers in the area. Should anyone in the audience care to participate with us, please contact any member of the group for details. No experience required.
